Two Sisters
Two Design Philosophies
Two Years Later
Kay Mounts and Kim Rotondo never thought that they would land a profession that would bring them so much joy and satisfaction. Both sisters worked in the business world; Kay was the VP of Operations and Kim worked as an Information Technology Consultant. Like so many people they had jobs that they tolerated, but they never felt it was their true calling. Both sisters had tinkered with the idea of pursuing an art degree in college, but both resisted and took the more practical route. The sisters always had a very creative side and enjoyed painting with acrylics, interior design, antique restoration, and architecture, but that is where the similarities ended. They decided they wanted to start a business together, but neither one was sure what type of business. They considered all the things they loved to do and then came up with Eisenhower Consignment. From the start, they had two distinct visions for the store that they would finally open. One vision was all inclusive, never finding an object to old or too tattered, but instead seeing the beauty and function of each consigned item. The other vision was much more discerning and searched for that special one of kind treasure. The sisters did not always share the same definition of “beauty”, but their disparate views have created a store filled with curiosities that span from Hollywood Regency glamour, Bohemian Chic, time honored antiques and jewelry of every style. This adventure is only two years in the making and the two sisters are already setting their sights on a second store that will carry many more full retail specialty furnishings and gorgeous fresh home accessories to punctuate any home’s interior. The dueling designing sisters Kay and Kim continue their pursuit of procuring objects that obscure design genres and delineate the true definition of originality!
